Feeding on the Word

"An old man once said, 'For a long period of time, I puzzled myself about the difficulties of Scripture until at last I came to the conclusion that reading the Bible was like eating fish. When I find a difficulty, I set it aside and call it a bone. Why should I choke on the bone when there is so much nutritious meat for me? Someday, perhaps, I may find that even the bone will give me nourishment.'
Dear Christian, do not become discouraged and disheartened at the parts of the Bible you do not understand. Simply move on, believing that one day God will open your mind to his deeper, more puzzling truths. in the meantime, grab hold of the morsels you do comprehend and feast on the banquet set before you."

Before you read, begin with prayer: Simply thank God for the opportunity to read His Word, and ask Him to provide clarity of mind and insight.
Recording:
1) The date and the Name of the book you're reading.
2) The author of this book, and to whom is he writing?
Other suggested notations:
3) The Chapter and Verse and major points that caught your attention.
4) Did you find a promise that God has made?
5) What special meaning might have been intended for the people at the time it was written?
6) What central meaning has this book of the Bible for you?
7) Have you found a verse you'd like to memorize?

Assignment Eighteen - James through Jude

We are nearing Revelation. And very soon we will be reading the entire New Testament for the second time! Yea!

But for now, this week's assignment looks like this:
Wednesday - read the book of James,
Thursday - read the book of 1 Peter,
Friday - read 2 Peter,
Saturday - read 1 John,
Sunday - read 2 John and 3 John
Monday - read the book of Jude.
Tuesday - read the book of Jude again (and/or any other book you'd like to review).

Assignment Seventeen - 2 Timothy through Hebrews

Last week was "tie up loose ends and start packing!" week. This week ten high school students and three other adults and I are in Atlanta, Georgia working where we are needed. We will be meeting many people. I would ask that you'd pray for our group and for the people that we meet. May be we be the blessing God has intended and may we meet many new friends.

This week's readings begin with 2 Timothy. Please read all four chapters on Wednesday, July 22. Read all three chapters of Titus on Thursday. Read the book of Philemon Friday and begin Hebrews on Saturday. Reading three chapters per day, you should finish Hebrews this coming Tuesday, July 28.

May God bless our reading and our understanding of these books.
